Vietnam FDI: Manufacturing Accounts for 73.9% of Registered Investment
Published: October 20, 2026
Vietnam continues to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into manufacturing. According to figures reported by the Foreign Investment Agency and published by Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park on October 19, registered FDI in Vietnam reached US$16.43 billion as of September 20, 2026.
Of this amount, US$11.17 billion came from 1,820 newly registered projects, while US$5.26 billion represented additional capital registered by existing projects. Estimated disbursed FDI reached US$11.02 billion during the first nine months, up 12.4% year on year.
Manufacturing and processing accounted for US$12.15 billion, or 73.9% of total registered FDI. This is an important indicator for businesses already serving, or seeking to enter, Vietnam’s industrial supply chains.
1. Manufacturing Remains a Major Investment Destination
Manufacturing and processing represented the largest share of registered FDI during the period. Real estate followed with approximately US$1 billion, while science and technology received US$649 million.
South Korea was the largest investor in the reported period, with US$5.58 billion, followed by Singapore at US$1.84 billion and Japan at US$1.7 billion.
Notable investment destinations included Hai Phong, Hanoi, Dong Nai, and Binh Duong. Suppliers can monitor developments in these locations for potential opportunities in industrial components, logistics, materials, and factory support services.
2. What Opportunities Could This Create for Vietnamese Suppliers?
Manufacturers and industrial-support companies: Businesses may assess their ability to supply components, packaging, materials, tooling, precision machining, and other services suited to specific projects.
Local suppliers: Preparing a professional company profile, product specifications, quality certifications, production capacity, and delivery schedules can help businesses respond to supplier qualification processes.
Logistics and industrial-service providers: Companies can monitor new and expanding projects to assess potential demand for warehousing, transport, maintenance, and related services.
However, registered investment is not the same as capital already disbursed, nor does it automatically translate into purchase orders for Vietnamese suppliers. Actual opportunities depend on project implementation, procurement plans, technical requirements, and each investor’s supplier-selection policies.
3. Reading the Figures Carefully
Registered FDI of US$16.43 billion was equivalent to 95.8% of the amount recorded over the same period a year earlier, representing a decrease of approximately 4.2%. Meanwhile, disbursed FDI rose by 12.4%.
These indicators measure different aspects of investment. Registered capital reflects the amount registered, while disbursed capital reflects investment funds reported as implemented. Neither figure alone provides a complete assessment of the investment environment.
4. What Should Businesses Do Next?
- Identify products and services that could meet the requirements of manufacturing projects.
- Prepare company profiles, technical specifications, and quality certifications.
- Assess production consistency, traceability, quality control, and delivery capabilities.
- Track specific investment projects instead of assuming every FDI project will generate local procurement.
- Contact relevant procurement or supplier-development teams when suitable opportunities arise.
Conclusion
The nine-month FDI figures for 2026 show that manufacturing and processing continued to account for the largest share of registered investment. For Vietnamese businesses, this provides a basis for researching potential supply-chain opportunities. Commercial decisions should still be based on specific projects, verified purchasing needs, and supplier requirements.
